Displaying Confidence In Your Content

24 May 2022

Have you ever just looked at someone and you could see the confidence oozing out of them?

I have been surrounded by a few of those women in my life and it amazes me when I see them. It makes me want to be them. It makes me want to surround myself with their presence.

Confidence has this way of attracting people to you. It looks effortless.

I remember Molly. A girl I noticed in the hallway on move-in day at university. She was standing in the hallway and was already friends with those who were walking in. At that moment, I wanted to be more like her. Not be her but I wanted that confidence that she was carrying around. The ability to make friends in a situation that was new to both of us. I craved that confidence because I felt like anything but confident.

Through the years though, I have realized that even though these women exude confidence, they still have moments when they feel quite the opposite. It is natural to feel less than confident.

How do you display confidence when you aren’t really feeling it?

How do you display confidence in your creative content?

How do you begin to feel confident in yourself and your abilities?

WHEN IT COMES TO BUILDING CONFIDENCE, CONSISTENCY IS KEY

I still remember the first time that someone called me a professional blogger. I didn’t feel like one. I had been feeling overwhelmed and like my blogging just wasn’t going anywhere. When I was interviewing for her podcast, she said to me, “This is the first time I have interviewed a professional blogger before.”

Consistency is a main key to becoming confident in your content.

I laughed out loud and told her that no one had ever called me that before. Someone else saw who I was before I even recognized it. (That has happened a few times in my life.)

Confidence didn’t come when I first started blogging. It didn’t even come in my second year. I didn’t start getting confident about my blogging until 2016 when I started my first business. Even then I wouldn’t say I was super confident in what I was doing.

At that time, I was still stuck in my head and comparing my blog to EVERY other blogger out there. That is the FASTEST way to get rid of any self-confidence that you may have. Comparison kills confidence.

The only way to truly build confidence is consistency. It comes down to showing up, practicing, learning, and doing it day in and day out to build up that confidence. The good news is that confidence can be built. If you don’t feel it now, you can if you keep showing up.

Here is an old blog post that I wrote back in 2020 about gaining confidence as a blogger.

WAYS TO SHOW CONFIDENCE IN YOUR CONTENT

So how do we do it? Here are some tips and tricks on how to show confidence when it comes to your content.

Talk about what you are passionate about

Do you notice how you talk about something that you LOVE to talk about? I do. I feel like I light right up. I could go on and on and talk about it all day. Confidence creeps in even if moments before I didn’t feel confident.

Notice your passions and if you are aligning with them. Seriously, life is too short not to be aligned with what you love to do. If you can’t do your passion as a career yet then figure out a way to add it into your life to help you build your confidence. Once you are confident in one area of your life, it will flow into other areas.

Use power words in your content

What are power words? Well, they are words that trigger an emotional response. You want to use these words throughout your content. These words are going to help those who are reading your content take action.

“Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate, and to humble.” Yehuda Berg

A few examples of power words are…

  • Powerful
  • Unlimited
  • Complete
  • Abundance
  • Obsessed
  • Captivate
  • Unforgettable
  • Crave
  • Awe-Inspiring
  • Forbidden

The list could go on and on but you get the idea.

Don’t focus on what others are doing

Like I said earlier, comparison is the number one thing that will take confidence away. Don’t focus on WHAT others are doing or HOW they are doing them.

Focus on WHAT you do and HOW you do it. It is hard to be confident when you aren’t being yourself. Again, this will come with time.

Sometimes you will need to unfollow others so that you can give yourself the space to focus only on what you are doing. I have done that multiple times. If someone on social media is making me question what I am doing, I pause them for a bit. There is nothing wrong with protecting your space.

Continue to show up

We all seem to forget that we are all beginners at some point. This isn’t a bad thing. This is a fact of life. Show up in the beginning so that it gets easier and easier as time goes on.

If you avoid it, the confidence isn’t going to come. You have to get uncomfortable in order to grow. So get uncomfortable and start showing up.

Show up imperfect.

Show up as yourself.

Just show up and you will gain the confidence.

Focus on the content that you love to create

What type of content do you love to create? Do that more than anything else. It doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do other forms of content but it means it should be your focus while you build your confidence up.

For me, blogging is one of my main content creations. I love blogging and so I do it often.

For you, it may be video content, written content, or graphics. What type of content do you love to create?

You could do six days a week with the content that you most love and then on the seventh day, focus on a form of content you aren’t super confident in. This way you still get the practice but are building confidence through the other content forms.

Continue to learn

Knowledge is a great way to build up your confidence in many different things. I am an advocate for everyone being a lifelong learner. In fact, during my 31 Days of May Blogging Challenge in my Facebook group, one of the days was to choose a course to learn something new. There is still time to join the challenge if you want.
